Shaun Pearson signs with Oporto Sports

Oporto Sports is delighted to announce that we will be representing current Grimsby Town assistant head coach, Shaun Pearson.

Pearson enjoyed a successful playing career starting in non-league with Spalding United, Stamford, and Boston United, where he won promotion to the then-named Conference North Division in 2010, prior to joining Grimsby Town, where he won promotion to League 2 in 2016 through the play-offs, before departing the club in 2017 to join Wrexham.

After four seasons in Wales, Pearson rejoined Grimsby Town in 2021 and was part of the squad that returned to League 2 after a six-year absence, again through a play-off final victory.

Pearson was named in the National League team of the season on four occasions, was an FA Trophy runner-up twice, won the Lincolnshire Senior Cup four times, and won four supporters’ player of the season awards and one player of the year trophy.

Shaun retired from playing in May 2023, with Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds describing him as ‘one of the best’, and became part of Grimsby’s backroom staff, working under Paul Hurst. After Hurst’s departure in October 2023, Pearson was named as joint-caretaker manager with Ben Davies, and they remained unbeaten during their time in the dugout with two wins and three draws, from five games.

Pearson’s current role sees him work as part of head coach David Artell’s coaching staff.

Speaking about the announcement, Oporto director Dean Eldredge, said: “Shaun has an infectious character and personality, and it’s clear to see that he means a great deal to his current and former clubs, underlining his outstanding commitment and contribution on and off the field.

“Shaun is at an exciting point of his career, at the beginning of his coaching journey, and we are looking forward to supporting him, and hope he and Grimsby Town have a successful season ahead of them.”
