Andy Whing

Oporto Sports is delighted to represent Solihull Moors head coach, Andy Whing.

Andy joined Solihull in June 2023, and last season guided them to the National League play-off final and FA Trophy final, falling to agonising penalty shootout defeats in both games at Wembley Stadium, within the space of a week.

Prior to Solihull, Whing steered Banbury United to the Southern League Premier Division Central title, and then kept the club in the National League North, the highest level in the club’s history.

The 39-year-old enjoyed a successful playing career, representing Coventry City, Brighton & Hove Albion (loan), before a permanent move, Chesterfield (loan), Leyton Orient (loan), before a permanent move, and finished his playing days at Oxford United.

Whing’s playing highlights include scoring the last ever goal at Coventry’s Highfield Road ground, making over 100 appearances for the Sky Blues, and being voted as Brighton’s player of the year in 2009, while at Oxford he won supporters’ player of the year in 2012, goal of the season in 2013, captained the side in the 2013/14 season, and is regarded as a cult hero by the club’s supporters.

After his retirement, he was named as PDP coach at Oxford, before becoming U23s head coach and first-team coach at Kidderminster Harriers. In 2018, he returned to Coventry as PDP coach, and then joined Hereford FC as assistant manager in 2019, before his first senior management job at Banbury.

Speaking of Andy, Oporto director Dean Eldredge said: “We are delighted to be working with Andy. From the first moment we met, you could feel his energy, personality and authenticity, all of which has played a substantial part in his success in the game.

“Andy loves to work with players and staff, to develop them, and to improve every club he has represented throughout his career. He is dedicated, humble, and has a proven winning mentality. Last season was another landmark year in his coaching progression, coming so close to a historic double, and we look forward to supporting him as he attempts to deliver further success for Solihull.”
